Visiting the dentist can be stressful for some children, and our aim here at Dulwich Dental Clinic is to be as welcoming and friendly as possible to make your child feel at ease. We will always make sure that your child is comfortable and happy.

The importance of children visiting a dentist

Your children’s dental care is very important. Their visits to the dentist will have a huge impact on how they will look after their teeth when adults.

Children should begin to see a dentist around the age of 2 and it’s essential to attend regular check-ups to ensure any problems are detected by the dentist as soon as possible. Unfortunately, tooth decay is very common in children so regular dental visits are necessary to prevent the need for a filling.

Children can also benefit from seeing a hygienist. The hygienist will deep clean, polish and remove plaque. They can also apply fluoride treatments and varnishes to help prevent decay.

We advise for your children to see a dentist and hygienist at least 2 twice a year. Please check out our Family Dental Care Plan.

CHILDREN'S ORAL HYGIENE TIPS:

  • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste - After breakfast and before bed.

  • Adult supervision for children under 9

  • 2 minutes of brushing is advised

  • Floss after brushing teeth where the teeth are closed together

  • If using a manual toothbrush, circular movements should be used over the front surfaces of the teeth

  • Do not rinse out with water after brushing, just spit.

  • Feed them healthy foods. Sweet snacks causes tooth decay.
